Esposti
A sound journey into the memory of the the esposti.
WITH THE PATRONAGE AND COLLABORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF NAPLES, CULTURA NAPOLI, THE REAL CASA SANTA DELL'ANNUNZIATA, RAI CAMPANIA, AND WITH THE MEDIA PARTNERSHIP OF TGR CAMPANIA.

Imagine crossing the threshold of an ancient place where, for centuries, newborn lives were entrusted to fate. “Esposti” is not simply a podcast: it is an immersive experience, an intimate journey through the Real Casa Santa dell’Annunziata in Naples. Here, thanks to archival documents and testimonies uncovered by the Pred ETS team, the stories of the abandoned infants — the esposti — come back to life, suspended between pain, love, and solidarity. New technologies amplify these buried voices, allowing them to resonate once again in our ears.
The series retraces the origins of the surname Esposito and the history of the centuries-old institution that welcomed abandoned newborns through the famous Ruota degli Esposti (Foundling Wheel). Through testimonies, documents, original music, and a sound design that evokes the whispers of stone, the podcast revisits the lives of the children who passed through the institution, the fostering system, and the legends that still inhabit our collective memory.
It is a sound journey that brings together historical rigour and multimedia creativity to give voice to an extraordinary human heritage — a dialogue between past and present that invites reflection on themes that remain deeply relevant today, such as identity, care, and dignity.
“Esposti” weaves together true stories — from the workings of the wheel to daily life inside the institution, from the fostering system to folk legends — in order to question what it means to be an esposto today. Each episode opens a window onto a hidden world, drawing the listener into an emotional journey that bridges past and present and invites us not to forget.
